Let’s start the hirudotherapy session<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
Hirudotherapy<\/strong> <\/span>should be carried out in a normal, calm environment. In the area of the presumed attachment, the skin should be cleaned before the procedure and it shouldn’t have foreign smells.<\/p>\n
Medicinal leech<\/strong><\/span> can be applied both with the help of additional devices (syringes without a needle, cans, test tubes), and without them. The patient should be in a comfortable position, better lying down.
\nIn the chosen place for the attachment, medicinal leeches<\/strong><\/span> should be placed with the front sucker towards the skin. If the patient’s skin temperature is low (often in elderly patients), leeches<\/strong><\/span> will be sucking sluggishly. The skin area can be prewiped with a piece of bandage moistened with warm water, to a state of hyperemia. However, if happens that leech does not want to suck, then the skin is anointed with a solution of glucose or sugar. \nAfter the leech falls off, the sterile bandage is applied (bandage, adhesive plaster, absorbent pads, diapers – if leeches were placed on the sacrum). The wound can bleed for 2 to 24 hours. Sometimes there are small bruises in place of bite – this is normal.They will disappear in a few days.

\nThe bandage should be changed every day for the prevention of urticaria, carbuncles, furuncles.
\nAfter removing the bandage, the wound should be treated with 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide and necessarily glued with bactericidal adhesive plaster for another 12-24 hours.
\nThe shower can be taken in 1-2 days.
\nBath can be taken on 4-5 days.

\nAfter the first procedures (more often in 12-18 hours after the 3-4th procedure), a\u00a0reaction to medicinal leech<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>may occur as a result of activation of the immune system, which is regarded as a positive, favorable phenomenon that indicates the exact hit of the leech secretion in the focus of disease.
\nReaction after attaching the medicinal leeches may include the following manifestations:<\/span>
\n-itching, redness, swelling, localized fever in places of leech bites – noted in 88% of cases;
\n-reaction from the lymphatic system in the form of regional and distant lymph nodes increasing – noted in 1,6% of cases;
\n-general reaction in the form of increase in body temperature, muscle pain, deterioration of general health – noted in 0.8% of cases.
\n-Reactions are not observed at all in 9.6% of patients.
